Johnna Jablonski told Good Morning, America that her daughter Emma sent a get-well card to Officer Daniel Hodges, 32. She said that Emma had seen a viral video of the hurt Capitol officer being crushed by protestors against a metal door frame while in the Capitol.
Johnna added that her daughter already formed a special connection with the on-the-job officer. “She had this outpouring of care, concern and questions about why this was happening. My gut instinct would be to say, ‘You’re too young. You don’t need to worry about that.’ But, she was emotionally impacted.”
In wanting to help Emma cope with her discomfort, Johnna suggested for her to write down her thoughts.
The 10-year-old Montana girl was then determined to make a get-well card for the policeman. Johnna later on tweeted it, hoping it could reach Daniel.
“I hope you heal from being crushed. I feel bad for you. Those people are really bad hurting you… I saw the video on CNN about people crushing you with a door. I almost cried. Get well,” Emma wrote in her letter.
The DC police responded to the tweet after a few hours and said that “Officer Hodges is recovering and doing well.” They also sent Johnna an address where she can mail Emma’s card. Along with it was a few gifts.
A local news outlet also connected Emma with Daniel directly, ABC News said. Both had the chance to speak through a video call.
