Abandoned kitten ‘on the brink of death’ makes great recovery with new family
- Clayton was only 8 months old when he was abandoned outside.
- Fortunately, he was saved by rescuers who made sure to help him recover to full health.
- He was then fostered by a volunteer, who ended up adopting him officially.
About three years ago, an 8-month-old kitten was found abandoned outside, left to fend for himself in the cold. Thanks to the kindness and love of his rescuers and new family, he has made a great recovery and is now a very healthy and happy cat.
Little Clayton was named after the street he was found on: Clayton Avenue.
Volunteers from foster-based rescue Little Wanderers NYC rushed to rescue him and take him to the vet.
According to his rescuers, Clayton had “hypothermia, a horrendous upper respiratory infection, and ulcers on his tongue. He was on the brink of death but brought back to life within hours of rescue.”
Because he was suffering esophagitis and ulcers, he had to be fed through a feeding tube.
Despite his many ailments, Clayton had a sweet personality.
“He played and purred through everything. He was the sweetest boy ever,” his rescuers shared.
When Clayton became healthy enough, he went home with foster mom Rebeccah, who volunteers for the rescue group.
Rebeccah continued Clayton’s treatments with extra care until he was finally able to eat normally.
Now that he could eat on his own, his mood improved!
“He was more active, brighter, and verbal. His purrs were so loud, almost with gratitude,” Rebeccah shared. “He was eating 2.5 cans per day, and he almost forgot he was sick.”
Rebeccah had only meant to foster Clayton until he could find his forever family. But by the time he made a full recovery, she had already grown to love him as her own. So she made the adoption official!
Fast forward three years later, and Clayton has grown beautifully.
He now acts as a big brother to every foster animal that comes into their care!
Rebeccah shared that Clayton reminds her why she fosters.
“I can’t stand to think there are other babies like him with nowhere to go. I’m lucky to have him,” she said. “I always tell people medical fosters are the best. Like people want a perfect pet but the wonky ones are the perfect ones.”
Thank you, Rebeccah, for all the care that you give these animals.
