Artist Creates Stunning Animal Sculptures from Old Silverware

Upcycling artist Matt Wilson has found a purpose for old silverware, such as old cutlery, keys, and even safety pins! While these old trinkets may be bound for the trash for most people, Matt used these as his materials for his stunning masterpieces. Take a look at the beautiful animal sculptures he has created.

1. When he started making the sculptures in 2017, he only depicted birds.

2. But he has since branched out to other animals.

3. He has made sculptures of squirrels, cats, and various insects.

4. Matt’s sculpture of a praying mantis is a particular source of pride. He shared, “I dedicated a whole month to this bug and am really proud of the way it came together.”

6. While he has sculpted many different animals, he still often goes back to his specialty on birds.

7. He’s also sculpted many different kinds of birds, such as woodpeckers, blue jays, owls, and others.

8. He utilizes different utensils, such as spoon heads and fork prongs to create highly-detailed plumage.

9. He has learned a lot and honed his craft since he started back in 2017.

10. Matt has also partnereed with other artists, including his friend and fellow craftsman Jacob Kent. Jacob creates wooden plaques and stands for Matt’s sculptures.

11. Matt shared that he has been focusing on birds more to showcase “multiple aspects of the birds at once, which allows for a more cohesive collection.”

13. When he recently released 100 bird sculptures on his website, they sold out almost immediately!

14. Matt’s website stated that his work helps in “conserving and appreciating our resources, so that the environment in which we live will continue to be an environment in which we desire to live.”
