High school senior and boy scout Tyrell Cooper is helping cats have a warmer winter thanks to his DIY insulated cat shelters.

Tyrell enlisted the help of his fellow boy scouts from Troop #3310 to assemble the “feline abodes” and deliver them to Atlanta’s LifeLine Animal Project and their Pets for Life program.

Outdoor cats tend to have a significantly lower life expectancy (only 2-5 years) compared to indoor cats, who can live up to 10-15 years. That’s because outdoor cats are constantly exposed to harsh weather that increases their risk for hypothermia or heat stroke.

Thanks to Tyrell’s creations and Troop #3310’s cooperative efforts, Atlanta’s outdoor cats will be given protection from this winter’s harsh elements.

Tyrell is an honors student at Westlake High School. He completed this community project to advance to Eagle Scout. After graduating, he plans to attend college and major in ecology.

LifeLine Animal Project thanked Tyrell and Boy Scout Troop #3310 for their kind efforts in a Facebook post.

Check out these wonderful cat shelters we just received for community cats! Thanks to Tyrell Cooper and Boy Scouts Troop…

They plan to distribute the feline shelters to clients with outdoor cat colonies. These cat colonies have been trapped, neutered, and released (TNR), as a way to reduce stray cat populations while still caring for the existing outdoor cats.

If you wish to do the same for the outdoor animals in your community, you can reach out to local organizations and inquire how you can contribute. You can also check out how to catch stray cats who are in need of medical attention.
