Meet Kasper. This black cat’s favorite activity is birdwatching, just like many other cats. But she has a quirk — she absolutely has to do this activity while carrying socks in her mouth.
According to her owner, the socks serve as a safety blanket, since Kasper is usually very anxious.
Cats usually make chattering or chirping sounds when birdwatching. This could mean that they’re upset that they cannot reach the bird and hunt them as their prey, which could trigger an anxious feeling. In Kasper’s case, the socks may be preventing him from making a sound.
A cat also usually captures prey by biting its neck, so biting on socks might be a way for Kasper to emulate that victorious moment.
Kasper’s owner has said that the socks are “very necessary when monitoring the bird situation.”
She added that the sock-loving cat may just be determined to “catch ’em all, …and by all I mean all of my socks.”
We can very well see that, as Kasper carries a different sock in tow in each of the pictures that her owner shared. Perhaps she’s trying to collect a sock of each color! Her owner might have to be on the lookout.
She can’t be mad at Kasper, though. Just look at that sweet face!
