Meet Goldie, a pet pufferfish with a great personality and a lovely smile. This cheerful fish loves showing off her smile whenever she’s happy.

Recently, however, her smile started getting hampered by an overgrown tooth.

It turns out that pufferfish teeth keep growing to make up for the wear caused by their diet of shellfish. THeir teeth fue together and resembles one large tooth.

But while Goldie has kept munching on hard shells, her teeth grew faster than they were worn down. She ended up with much longer teeth.

If this keeps up, she could have trouble eating. So her owner, Mark Byatt, brought her to the Sandhole Veterinary Centre for help.

The vets kept Goldie sedated so she wouldn’t get stressed by the dental work.

The clinic explained, “We use fish-safe anesthetic and [nurse] Debbie held her with a towel, often placing her back into the water.”

They then carefully trimmed down her overgrown teeth.
