  • When Leah Carroll was 4 years old, she was diagnosed with congenital neutropenia, a rare blood disorder.
  • Her mom introduced her to the song “Overcomer” in her almost a year stay in the hospital for treatments.
  • A video of her singing the song went viral and earned her the nickname of “The Overcomer.”

Four-year-old Leah Carroll was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2017. Leah had congenital neutropenia that had a host of other tough complications.  It required bone marrow transplants.

Despite the diagnosis and the ensuing long stay in the hospital, Leah refused to give up.  Through all the treatments that she had to go through, she maintained her sweet disposition with her smiles and joy.

Her mom Lindsay thought of ways to keep Leah occupied.  Lindsay turned to searching songs online that Leah could learn and sing.  By fate, she found Mandisa’s “Overcomer” song.

She thought that it could well be Leah’s anthem.  Leah took the lyrics to heart and started jamming to the song.  Her mom Lindsay took a video of one moment when Leah was singing “Overcome.”

Leah started out lip-synching but as the powerful lyrics resonated in her, her adorable voice started belting out the song.

Finding it inspirational for her daughter to have an affinity with the song’s message, she uploaded it on social media, not knowing that it would become viral not long after. The audience found it adorable and Leah earned the nickname of “The Overcomer.”

As her mom thought, it really became Leah’s anthem.

Lindsay explains, “The song itself is just really, really fitting for her life, you know, being an overcomer and getting through everything she’s been through.”

The adorable 4-year-old is now 7 but instead of the sickly warrior child, she has become healthy. Her immune system has grown stronger and stronger and “100 percent pharmaceutical free.”

She embodies the song for “staying in the fight until the final round” but still keeping her spirits up and joyful. “Overcomer” might have just been written for her and of her!
