- “Pawpaw” has developed a beautiful bond with his grandkids, despite the age gap of around 90 years.
- Even after suffering a stroke and getting diagnosed with dementia, their bond only grew stronger.
- Their relationship has since been helping him recover by “leaps and bounds.”
Age gap is not a problem at all for “Pawpaw” and his grandkids. Despite the 88- and 91-year age gap, he can easily keep up with Mera and Bowen. He can even lift them up over his head!
Masa Hensley, Pawpaw’s daughter, loves watching them spend time together through gardening, singing, and simply chilling on the swing.
Sadly, Pawpaw suffered a stroke in the fall of 2021 and was also diagnosed with dementia. He had to use a wheelchair or a walker when he was discharged, and he was also getting increasingly confused.
Masa was worried about what this could mean for his relationship with his grandkids. But it turns out that their bond only grew stronger and more beautiful.
She had a talk with her kids, now ages 3 and 6, and thought that love would find a way. When they spent some time together again, Pawpaw’s mental and physical health started to improve!
Masa shared, “If anything, it’s brought them closer together, and it’s definitely helped him on the recovery front. He isn’t worried about the other stuff, he’s just worried about being in the moment, and I think that’s where kids are, and I think that has a lot to do with why they connect so much.”
All the time spent with the grandkids has helped Pawpaw recover by “leaps and bounds” every day!
His family knows that there may be more struggles ahead of them, but for now, they are taking it one day at a time, with the thought that life is “still the good part.”
