Dontez Williams, 33, was about to be married to Myshella Burton, 26, so he wanted her daughters to feel special as well during their wedding ceremony. So in addition to writing his wedding vows, he also wrote adoption vows for his stepdaughters.

Dontez has been in the girls’ lives for seven years. He met Abigail, 9, and Natalie, 8, back when they were just infants. He told FOX News that the little girls seemed to have approved of him from the start, which he and Myshella took as a sign of destiny.

Dontez considered an adoption proposal to be the best way to make them feel special during the wedding.

He said that he was “kind of like the only father-figure they had ever really had,” so he wanted to make it official.

He then kept the vows a secret and only gave a heads-up to their officiant at the wedding rehearsal.

So on Aug. 13, just before their wedding ceremony, he delivered his vows to Abigail and Natalie.

He highlighted his second time meeting the girls at Abigail’s birthday party. He said, “I’ll never forget the way Abigail looked at me. It was priceless. It really meant a lot to me seeing her face light up.” Their bond grew stronger since.

The girls were initially confused by the departure from the rehearsal, but they soon teared up when they realized what was going on.

Myshella was also surprised, “but she was happy and just thankful for me stepping up,” Dontez said. “She was really happy that I feel that way for them and said she’s grateful to have me in their lives.”
