WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Liz Pinfield-Wells, a resident of Dawley, Shropshire, was inspired to take action when she learned that her town’s curbside recycling service did not accept certain items like baby food pouches, food packaging, and toothbrushes.

To address this issue, she built a DIY recycling center in her garden shed and encouraged the public to leave their mixed recycled items there. Over the past four years, Liz has recycled over 2,600 pounds of trash split between 30 different categories of recyclable waste that aren’t taken by regular trash collection.

She sends the items off to be recycled by TerraCycle, which shreds them into small plastic pellets to be made into other items like watering cans and benches.

Liz’s efforts have not only helped the environment but also raised thousands of pounds for her local community, including donations to her daughter’s gymnastics group and a local charity’s community garden project.
