Meet Rob Kenney, probably the winner of the father of the year this 2020.

His father walked out on them when he was just a teenager, leaving his eight children behind. Now, he takes it upon himself to make sure that other children without fathers always have someone to ask, “Dad, how do I…?”

His childhood and experience of familial affairs made him want to do whatever it takes to raise his two children properly. He wanted to be the father that he could have had. With these things in mind, Rob set out to raise Kristine and Kyle into happy, successful adults.

“My goal in my life was to raise good adults,” Rob said. “I never wanted to be wealthy. I never wanted to be necessarily successful. My goal in life was to raise good adults — not good children but good adults — because I had a fractured childhood.”

He succeeded. His children moved out from under his roof, confident to take care of themselves. Rob then extended his goal to the many children out there without their fathers to guide them. He created “Dad, how do I?”, a YouTube channel that posts perhaps the most wholesome videos on the internet.

“I want it to be about everyday tasks, but I also would like to pass along some of the wisdom I’ve learned along the way to encourage people,” Rob added. “I thought I was just going to be showing people how to do stuff, but it’s kind of resonating on a whole different level.”

To say that these videos online were a hit is an understatement. The channel raked in millions of subscribers since the first video in April. The part of the experience that made the most impact for him is the messages sent his way, from people in similar situations.

“Some of the emotional responses I’ve gotten from people who don’t have fathers, or didn’t have a relationship with their father, or have lost their father, you know, and they’ve said they watched my videos in tears, just being reminded of missing their dad. It’s amazing,” he said.

There is nothing that could top this and surely, this is father-of-the-year worthy. This intention to give children everywhere the father figure missing from their lives is kindness in its purest form.
