Jennie Tatum saw her dogs Sid and Olaf playing near their pool from inside their house.  When Sid fell through the icy water brought about by Tennessee’s cold snap, she acted on instinct.

She left everything and just jumped through.  Nothing on her mind but save Sid.  Later she said, “It was pure adrenaline. I was not even thinking about being cold.”

Captured on security video was Olaf looking on worriedly as Sid disappeared into the ice.

Jennie searches for Sid but could not see him beneath the water.  She jumps out of the pool and sees him and hurriedly pulls the 50-pound animal out.

She recalled, “All I could think about was I need to get him into the house and to get him warm.”  Jennie was on the phone with Sid’s vet for advice.

April Smith, who is Sid’s vet said that only a second and Sid would have lost his life. She explained, “You notice he just sunk and he didn’t have a chance without her. He wouldn’t have a chance.”

With the help of oxygen, the poor dog was revived and now has a new outlook towards the pool. Even if the snow had already melted, Sid has been avoiding the pool. With the scary incident, he has been enjoying the attention. Olaf loves him more now.

Jennie says she’s not a hero for saving Sid.  She just had to do what a fur mom like her would do. “Never would have thought I’d have this guy back in our home after falling in the pool and getting stuck under the ice yesterday. Thankful to April, Cassi, and Kyle for helping me save this guy’s life! He’s one lucky dog (and his brother sure was worried about him).”
