Matthew Wilkinson and his son 15-year-old Dalin of Oakland, California, were fixing the brakes on his truck when it collapsed and fell on him.
Matthew said he could not get an angle and so he slid beneath the truck but its stuck rotor popped and the truck fell on him.
“I know it rolled forward because I saw it roll forward and it fell right on top of me. All I could think about was the breath coming out of me.” He added, “I was just squished. I couldn’t talk. I couldn’t yell.”
Seeing his dad trapped underneath the truck and hearing him scream in pain scared Dalin. But he summoned all his strength to lift the truck just enough for his father to roll out.
“It just dropped right on him. I was scared,” Dalin told NBC affiliate KCRA. “I heard him make a noise like his soul was leaving his body. It was crazy.”
And everything was blank for Matthew after that.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for a punctured lung, broken ribs and a separated shoulder.
Everything was captured in Wilkinson’s security cameras. And seeing it made Matthew realize that if not for Dalin’s quick action, he would not have survived the ordeal.
Matthew said, “My son is my hero. He saved my life.”
