Teen Girl With Downs Has Heartwarming Reaction When She Made The Cheer Squad [Video]

While most of the classes now are online and physically distant, sports and other social activities are even more important to keep the kids active, engaged, and feel included.

That’s why the first year high school student from Delaware, Kayla Kosmalski, was so excited to try out for her school’s cheerleading squad, even though classes are still held online.

The 14-year-old has Down syndrome and dancing has been her passion since she was just 4 years old. She was then a cheerleader until just before she turned 6. Since then, her pompoms have been waiting to be dusted off.

So, with the help of her mom, Amy Kumalski, she worked hard to memorize all the chants and cheers for her scheduled tryout. They spent over 16 hours practicing tirelessly because there are only 20 slots and she had to compete with 36 others.

“We worked together all weekend because she wanted this so much,” Amy told GMA explaining about Kayla’s incredible determination.

Her hard work definitely paid off because the next day, Amy showed Kayla the list of those who passed the screening and her reaction was just so pure and lovely!

In the video that Amy recorded, we can see Kayla broke down to tears after realizing her number was on the list. Then she emotionally thanked her mom for the support.

The proud mom shared the video on Facebook and it quickly went viral.

“This girl fills the world with so much good… I’ve never seen her react like this. Ever. I’ve never seen her want to be a part of something so badly,” she wrote in the caption. “Inclusion matters. For everyone.”

Kayla’s reaction is just so beautiful and we are very proud of her too! Congratulations for making it Kayla!
