When senior dogs are surrendered or rescued by shelters, they appear glazed and confused.  They also have various ailments due to their age which make them least attractive to potential adopters.  They wait longer and some even end up on the list of those to be put down.  This is a sad reality that breaks the hearts of shelter staff.

For shelters, every adoption is a cause for a celebration.  But when senior dogs find their forever homes, it is doubly joyous.

@Jessiefurness and her partner chose to adopt a 14-year-old Kelpie named Dash who was about to be put to sleep.  He was skin and bones with medical problems.  The couple did not let Dash’s issues stop them from giving him a family and forever home.

At first, Dash did not establish eye contact with his parents.  He spent his days sleeping.  But in time, with love and affection being showered on him, he began to ask for pats, go on walks, and adventures with his brothers and play with them.  And his smile appeared more often and looked at his parents eye to eye.

The transformation was shared by the couple on TikTok and viewers could not help but be amazed at the change in Dash.

@tarlix1 commented, “How beautiful 😍 is he. So glad he got a forever home and can shine 🥰.”

Another user @annaszewczy said, “You guys literally saved a life 🥰what an amazing feeling that must be ❤️.”

We should also give credit to Dash’s siblings for showing him how to be a dog— a loving one at that.

@miadogadventures summarizes the power of adoption by writing, “Never too late to love someone! Thank you for adding him into your family, what a beautiful thing to do! 🥰.”
