We all know of the traditional bouquet tossing at weddings. Some guests are incredibly competitive in catching the bouquet, while some dread being asked to participate in it. Well, we think everyone would want to be a part of a new tradition — a “cat toss” — especially when it would get you a kitten!

For their wedding, Cassie and Jonathon Roth broke from tradition and coordinated with Ilana Karcinski of FairyTail Pet Care to run the cat toss.

…and their loved ones fought over it.

The guests were so excited about the prize since they knew there were actual adoptable kittens available at the party.

The organizer said it was “the most intense toss” they’ve ever witnessed!

In addition to a bridesmaid winning the cat toss, two other wedding guests adopted shelter kittens!

While the wedding booze could probably contribute to some impulsive decisions, Ilana made the assurance that there are steps to the adoption process to guarantee “responsible pet ownership.”

Ilana explained that serious adopters fill out a “hold form,” but all the animals will still return to the shelter that night, giving potential pet parents until the next day to personally “go to the shelter and actually fill out the paperwork [and] adopt their new best friend.”

Ilana and her best friend Kelly Nova, both animal lovers, founded FairyTail Pet Care in Tampa Bay, Florida, in 2015 after noticing “a need in the wedding industry.” Ilana said, “Couples wanted to include their pets in their special day but quickly became overwhelmed.”

Soon, demand for their “wedding day pet care” services increased and they went into franchising. They also coordinated with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to include adoptable pets in weddings.

Four to five adoptable puppies or kittens will be included in the wedding, often carried down the aisle or mingling with guests at the reception party. The socialization helps build the rescues’ confidence, boosts their well-being, and increases their chances to get adopted.

Ilana said that they didn’t even think about coordinating a cat toss until they were approached by Cassie and Jonathon.

Ilana said that fun gimmicks such as the cat toss are “a great way to raise awareness about adoption and help a shelter animal find a home. Including adoptable animals in your wedding is such a beautiful way to showcase your love and make a paw-sitive impact.”

Thanks to FairyTail Pet Care, over 80 rescue animals found their new homes.
