Carolina Medeiros was surprised to see a golden-capped parakeet, a type of parrot native to Brazil, on her porch.
She thought that the bird might just be resting her wings, so she decided to offer her a banana.
The parrot was initially shy and skittish, but when Carolina held out the banana for her, she could not refuse the treat.
The parrot eventually rejoined her flock in a nearby tree.
But she returned the next day! This time, Carolina offered her some berries.
The parrot, whom Carolina named Tatá, came back on the third day and even ventured all the way inside the apartment.
Carolina shared, “I felt like I was chosen.”
Tatá always flew back to her flock but she continued to visit Carolina. She even grew more confident in her visits!
“She’d go to my house at 6:30 a.m. and knock on the window until I opened it so she could enter,” Carolina shared.
Tatá visited daily and stayed longer and longer, spending most of the day with Carolina. She would then leave at around sunset to rejoin her flock.
Carolina shared that being woken up by a bird took some getting used to, but she has also fallen in love with the sweet bird.
“I never imagined that a connection between a wild animal and a human being could happen in such a fast and intense way,” Carolina shared.
Tatá had always been free to fly and Carolina never attempted to cage her to be her pet.
Eventually, after visiting Carolina for seven consecutive days, Tatá left with her flock.
Carolina doesn’t know when she’ll get to see Tatá again, but they both know that she’ll always be welcome.
And Carolina will never forget their incredible bond.
“Tatá felt my intention, she felt my affection and love. After this experience, I certainly see animals in a different way,” she shared.
