Ellie Karr has always dreamt of going to New York City — see the Statue of Liberty, catch a Broadway musical, (her personal favorite is “Hamilton”), and hopefully, stop by Rockefeller Center to see her favorite morning show, TODAY.
She was planning to go after high school graduation but due to the pandemic, Ellie missed a milestone last year.
The Texas teen would like to see the Statue of Liberty, and watch some Broadway musicals — she likes “Hamilton” a lot. And hopefully, stop by Rockefeller Center to see the anchors of her favorite morning show — TODAY.

When TODAY heard about Ellie’s missed trip, the show surprised its superfan with an even bigger NYC adventure.
TODAY arranged a video call between Ellie and Savannah Guthrie. The anchor invited her to NYC to see all those things she missed. Ellie flew to New York with her mother Lisa Brodie to finally see the Big Apple in person.

Teaming up with “Hamilton” staff, Ellie was able to see the Broadway megahit and even got a video message from creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Add to that, Ellie had the chance to meet the ladies who play her favorite characters — the Schuyler sisters. They even sang her most loved song from the show, “Helpless.”

Of course, Ellie also got to see Lady Liberty up close.
Mom Lisa said, “This is the trip of her dreams.” But the trip is not yet over, there’s more!

Ellie and Lisa stopped by Studio 1A and paid a visit to the TODAY show.
Ellie caught up with Savannah again, who asked her about her favorite part of her NYC trip.
“I liked everything!” Ellie beamed. “Thank you so much!”
